Solaris / Linux Senior Engineer

Role Level: Senior Engineer
Experience: 6–10 years of support experience in Solaris / Linux environments

Role Purpose

The Solaris / Linux Senior Engineer will be responsible for the administration, support, maintenance, and optimization of enterprise Solaris and Linux infrastructure environments. The role requires strong technical expertise in system administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and infrastructure support within mission-critical or data center environments. The engineer will work closely with internal stakeholders, infrastructure teams, vendors, and project teams to ensure system stability, availability, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, and support enterprise Solaris and Linux server environments.
  • Perform Solaris system administration activities including installation, configuration, patch management, system hardening, and upgrades.
  • Manage Solaris Cluster environments and Solaris filesystem administration.
  • Monitor system health, capacity, and performance to ensure optimal system availability and reliability.
  • Perform performance tuning, root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and incident resolution for Solaris/Linux infrastructure issues.
  • Support operating system migration, data center migration, and infrastructure refresh activities.
  • Ensure system compliance with operational, security, and governance standards.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, operational procedures, and implementation guides.
  • Coordinate with application, network, storage, and security teams during system implementation and troubleshooting activities.
  • Provide technical support during planned maintenance, deployments, and critical incidents.
  • Engage stakeholders effectively and provide timely updates on operational or project-related activities.
  • Participate in on-call support and after-office-hours activities when required.

Requirements

  1. Strong knowledge of Solaris environment.
  2. Expertise in Solaris administration, patch management & system upgrades.
  3. Experience in Solaris Cluster and Solaris filesystem management.
  4. Strong experience in performance tuning & troubleshooting.
  5. Preferred to have data center migration experience.
  6. Strong stakeholder coordination and communication skills.
  7. Fluent in English communication. Bahasa Melayu is an added advantage.
  8. Good technical documentation writing skills.

Preferred Skills & Exposure

  • Experience supporting Linux platforms such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS, or Oracle Linux.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies and enterprise backup solutions.
  • Exposure to enterprise monitoring tools and automation/scripting (Shell, Bash, Python).
  • Experience working within large-scale enterprise or data center environments.
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes, incident management, and change management practices.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
